What should i do to organise a Magic Children’s Party in SE London?
Top tips from an experienced Magician!
Professor Palmermoff who has performed his Magic show at over 2000 children’s parties offers his pearls of wisdom.
Children often request a Magic party and actually this is a fairly simple way of organising a very special and memorable party for them and their friends as well as any adults there too.
The main thing is to hire a Magician who can come a provide a dazzling, funny and memorable show in the middle of the party which entertains everyone, involves many of them and makes everyone feel they’ve come to a very special event.
The rest is just trimmings like decor, cakes, party bags etc but how to have the Magic show itself depends quite a lot on the ages and the number of people there.
Magicians can perform their show in a wide variety of situations from a small amount of children in a front room or garden to a large audience in a hall but which is best?
Different Magicians prefer different arena’s, ages and numbers of children. Some have very twee shows which cater for the under 5’s others are better for older children and a mix of children and adults. Some are better for smaller numbers, others are capable of doing large shows to large audiences.
It’s important to do a bit of research and try and match the Magician to the situation you are presenting them with.
I would always recommend primarily a party at home with manageable amounts of children so the besties and a few adults and a show in the front room or garden. This in my experience creates a great theatrical setting for the magic show with few distractions, happy children in a comfortable environment, happy adults in a social situation, with comfortable chairs or carpets to sit on.
Obviously this is not always possible in small homes or with the obligation to invite the whole class as well as relatives which is often the case with 5 and 6 year olds especially. In that situation choose the hall or venue wisely so the magician can also create a theatrical situation for his show without a plethora of distractions.
Magician can have great shows in halls to large audiences but there are common things that can make it harder for them in halls.
– Lack of alternative spaces to go for young crying toddlers, adults determined to chat which is not the case in a home. I always recommend adults watch and engage with a magic show, it’s better for the children and it’s fun for the adults too.
– Serving food and drink to children during a show is a major distraction and food is often there permanently on display in a hall. I recommend keeping food and drinks away from the children during a Magic show.
– Toys and balloons are great at a children’s party but not in the hands of children during a Magic show. The main thing during any show is to keep distractions to a minimum, there is a direct correlation between the amount of distractions and the quality of the show and that is true of any show in any arena not just the world of children’s parties. There is a saying in show business you are only as good as your audience. A good audience can enhance a show massively so it is important to try and make the situation one in which the magician or performer can thrive.
Most experienced performers know how to make the best of any situation with the layout of a room, by controlling the audience in front of them etc etc and pretty well make the best of any situation but in some situations that is effortless, in others it’s not, so it’s always good for best results to be aware of the parameters and give the Magic the very best stage you can for their show.
A Magic show is a theatrical event and the better the conditions for it are, the better the show is, the more both the children and adults enjoy it and the better the party is. Magic is powerful entertainment and given the right situation it really can make a party an incredibly special occasion to remember. It really can turn a children’s party into something they will all remember fondly forever.
The Professor Palmermoff Magic show has been performed in almost every situation imaginable for a children’s party. The Professor often says he knows how good the show will be before he even starts the show because once you see how the parameters are set it’s quite easy to predict the results. I’d also suggest getting an experienced Magician is also a good idea, one that has seen all the variables and knows how to adapt to almost every situation both before the show in how to set the arena and during the show when reacting to everything and anything that may happen.
You also know by getting a Magician that has been doing it a long time that they have navigated around the trials and tribulations of performing in numerous situation and survived all set for another day. 🙂
